    Awards, accolades, and publications

    In 2012, we proudly showcased many of our contributors’ publications and awards.

    Amy Ferris and Hollye Dexter co-edited the anthology of essays “Dancing at The Shame Prom: Sharing the Stories That Kept Us Small” (published by Seal Press). Former iPinion Director of Multimedia Tracy Thomas was a contributing essayist to the anthology.

    Gary Huerta published “Divorce: A Survival Guide for Men.”

    David Lacy was named Irvine Valley College’s “Teacher of the Year” for the academic term concluding in 2012. He teaches community college writing courses.

    Debra DeAngelo racked up two more column-writing awards in both the California and National Newspaper Publishers Associations’ “Better Newspapers Contests.”

    Kelvin Wade published “Morsels: Twisted Tales of Life and Death” Volumes 1 and 2 for Kindle.

    Tracy Thomas had a huge year: Exhibitions in juried shows at The Lunch Box Gallery in Miami, Florida (2x’s); LA Mobile Arts Festival in Santa Monica, CA; Rebekah Jacob Gallery in Charleston, SC; Nuovo Film Studio, Savano, Italy; The Overpass Gallery, Loano, Italy; Orange Gallery, Orlando, Florida; Black Box Gallery, Portland, Oregon; Gallery 1075, West Sacramento, CA (Solo show); Featured Artist on the App Whisperer, Life in Lofi, Pixels, iPhoneOgenic, Mobile Photography Awards, and iPhoneography Central websites; Artist of the Day three times at iPhoneart.com; Two-time featured documentary series on SocialDocumentary.net; Finalist in Digital Photo Pro Magazine’s Emerging Pro Photography Competition; Finalist in the Digital Arts: California “Wide Open Digital” Competition; photography featured in PhotoWorld Magazine – China, The Huffington Post, LAist, Lesnscratch, the Miami Herald, F-Stop Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, the Baltic News Network, The Daily Mail UK, and the West Sacramento Press; published in the Seal Press Anthology “Dancing at the Shame Prom: Sharing the stories that kept us small”; added onto the faculty at the San Miguel Writers Conference in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

    Beth Bornstein Dunnington got word this year that her story, “Staying On The Wave,” will be published in “An Anthology of Babes: 36 Women Give Motherhood a Voice,” edited by Suzi Banks Baum and published by “Laundry Line Divine.” The anticipated publication date is March 1, 2013.

    Judith Newton’s memoir, “Tasting Home: Coming of Age in the Kitchen,” was accepted for publication by She Writes Press (forthcoming in February, 2013). Two chapters of the memoir won prizes in womensmemoirs.com contests; three chapters of the memoir were accepted for publication in an e book on food memoir which womensmemoirs.com is publishing.
