An open letter to all the Donald Trumps
by Gary Huerta
Dear Donald Trump,
I see from your social media rants on election night that you were not particularly enthusiastic about the re-election of President Barack Obama. From the subtle sub-context of your messages, it also seems as though you question our democratic process of how we choose our leaders.
In case you forgot, here are some of the election night gems you wrote upon finding out that America had decided to go down a path directly opposed to your sage advice:
• “A total sham and a travesty.”
• “Well, back to the drawing board!”
• “Our nation is a once great nation divided.”
• “The world is laughing at us.”
• “The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.”
Oh, Donald. Petulant Donald. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a better definition of a spoiled brat in my entire life. You didn’t win so the whole system is fucked, right? Your team doesn’t get to bat first so you take your ball and glove and go home, but not before insulting the other team for not getting the opportunity to play.
What exactly are you complaining about? You have had more wealth and prosperity undeservedly handed to you in your miserable 66 years than millions of people will have in their collective lifetimes. You are lucky enough to have a network as stupid as NBC pay you to entertain the masses. And yet you still find reason to act like a toddler who just got his lollipop taken away by his nanny. (By the way, I’m not one of the masses.)
I never expected you to use your position in the media to lead by any kind of shining example. To think that, I’d have to be high on acid. But do you have to constantly remind us how low the bar can go?
I suppose the best rebuttal to your profound shallowness could come from a line delivered by Les Grossman, the studio mogul hilariously portrayed by Tom Cruise in the movie “Tropic Thunder”.
“First, take a big step back… and literally, FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!”
Of course, before you attempt to make love to that orange punim of yours, may I suggest you drink heavily?
Here’s the bottom line for those of us with common sense, Donald. You and those of your kind who see the election as a catastrophe are never going to be part of the solution. You will only continue to be part of the problem – the reason this country continues to be divided and fractured.
As I also took to social media last night, I was shocked and saddened to see how many Donald Trumps there were out there. Bitter, angry children who wanted to pick up their marbles and leave the playground because they didn’t get their way.
Let me remind each and every one of you: This election was only part of the work that must be done. It was never going to be the solution to all our problems.
One of the bigger dilemmas we face is the continued divisiveness from tools like Donald Trump. Win or lose, we need to wake up and realize that if we remain separatist and antagonistic, we will most surely fall.
Whether your team won or not, it’s time for every person to push every elected official on both sides to work together in the best interests of everyone.
No more bias. No bullshit political agendas. No more Trumps against the world.
For nearly two years, haven’t we all demonstrated we are sick of that? Shouldn’t we band to together and demand that our elected officials be 100 percent accountable so that when it comes time to elect the next president, both parties will have candidates that can speak of their accomplishments instead of the other party’s failings? Or do we just continue to snipe at one another like bloated millionaires with cotton candy haircuts?
No one on either side profits from a government whose pillars are built on the failings of their fellow citizens. Only the myopic misanthropes like Donald Trump think otherwise.
