• ‘Die Laughing’ again with Cathy Speck

thay 8The original “Die Laughing with Cathy Speck” performance has come and gone, but there will be another opportunity to find out how humor helps one cope with the inevitable. On Thursday, Nov. 14, 12-1 p.m., Cathy Speck will be speaking at the Woodland Community College, 2300 East Gibson Road. There is no charge to attend.

This will be a more casual, interactive conversation with Cathy Speck. She’ll laugh with you, and tell true stories of how she stays so positive, hilarious and joyful while dying from ALS, a fatal neurodegenerative disease that usually kills people within two to five years after being diagnosed. Cathy is  on year four and says she’s not slowing down unless it becomes physically impossible for her to come to ae venue.

Cathy also talks about her experiences “coming out” at age 17, her prior plans for suicide, surviving alcoholism, eating disorders, and self-mutilation — how fun!

If you haven’t had the “Cathy Speck Experience,” be there. And students — get extra credit for attending!

I’m so bummed. I keep missing it. One of these days you’ll be performing on a day I can come and see you.
