Golden Rule doesn’t work for everyone

Holy Crap! What in the Hell is going on in the world today? Violence and death has, again, become common in the international community. Actually, when I think a little harder (using my extra-large brain) it has always been the norm. From the beginning of time, this has been true.

Looking at human history (at least the history that is written but possibly not accurate history), man’s behavior toward each other has never changed. There has always been the strong and the weak. The strong stay strong by taking, by force, what the weak can provide. So solly, but that’s the way it is, I tell you nine time!

For the time being, we here in the United States are a good portion of the takers in this world. We seem to enjoy taking what we want from the world. For example, most of us are willing give up what is most important to us in order to take what we want. Yes, we freely send our sons and daughters across the world to kill the sons and daughters of those who have what we want to take. Geez, you gotta know this is true; it always has been.

Well, I’ve been wondering why mankind is always fighting among themselves when, with a simple concept like “sharing” we could all live in peace and harmony. I spent some time thinking about this and this is what I came up with as a solution to global problems.

While thinking very hard about this, it dawned on me that there was something my mother told me many years ago that might apply here. Here in the US it’s called “the Golden Rule.” That is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” or something similar to that.

I thought “Yeah, if I can spread that idea around, it might solve all of our problems. This is it!” I thought I’d take a look at the research and find out if this might work. Everything looked real good at first, but then I ran into a few problems. This is what I found.

Every single country in the world has a quotation similar to our “Golden Rule.” So, I thought, “This is good.” I decided to dig a little deeper into this idea, so I read the next paragraph. I don’t remember what that said, but this afternoon I had a chat with a fellow I play internet chess with who lives in South Africa to get an idea of what he thought about it.

Well, he says that this “Golden Rule” does not apply to his religion because he could, in no way, treat a woman as he wishes to be treated himself. The rule does not apply to women or men of some other tribes. “How can this be?” I asked. He replied that women and members of certain tribes are beneath him and he could not deal with them as equals. “OK,” I said.

To make a long story short, there are many countries that feel the same way and they don’t understand how we can say that we would treat others as we would want to be treated when we have never done so before. US policy abroad has been “Do unto others before they do unto you!” Much of the world feels that the US has no honor in peace or at war.

Much of the world feels that the US is the greatest aggressor of all times with their highly technical military might that is controlled by Wall Street. Much of the world does not separate their religion from their government as we do. Shockingly I found that in much of the world, hurting women is not against the law. In some countries a rebellion against the government is a rebellion against the religion. See for yourself, Google “Orhan Pamuk” of Turkey.

Some of the world considers the US as the “Great Evil” with its policies of torture and assassination. Some say that they would completely ignore the United States if we weren’t always knocking down doors and wreaking havoc, which keeps their attention. I don’t think much of the world would treat us as we wish to be treated.

Anyway, that’s what I thought about today. Now as I look back on it, I think it was a waste of my time. I think some of their ideas may have some credence but I can also tell you that there is no way in hell that my wife is going to let me beat her if she doesn’t do what I say. Maybe that’s a good thing. I’m not sure.

Maybe I should stand my ground. Maybe I should go on strike until she buys me a dishwasher machine thingy. Oh, and a leaf blower so I can dust the living room in an easy manner too!

    That’s right! I’m the man!

    • I still would not want to live anywhere else in the world and I have been almost everywhere. Love your thoughts Donald. I couldn’t play even chess with a man who thinks the way your chess player thinks. 🙂
