Impeach him already
The fabulous Eugene Robinson, Pulitzer Prize-winning associate editor for The Washington Post, said it best, “If Trump doesn’t warrant impeachment, who does?”
In 1868, the first president to be impeached was Abraham Lincoln’s Veep, Andrew Johnson. Johnson was a morally disgusting man who devised a “black code” which would allow slavery to continue for the rich and famous, under a different name. But, sadly, that wasn’t considered an impeachable offense. They got him when he violated the Tenure of Office Act and fired his Secretary of War. But Johnson got a pass in the Senate and did not leave office.
Fast forward 131 years to Bill Clinton. Also a morally disgusting man when it came to his abuse of power over women. In 1999 he lied about a blow job in the oval and was impeached. But Clinton got a pass in the Senate and did not leave office.
And here we are, 20 years later, with this guy.
Donald Trump is killing America and everything we stand for.
He openly violates the Constitution by proposing bans on Muslims, calling journalists “enemies of the people,” and discriminating against women and people of color.
Trump promotes white nationalism and high-fives Neo-Nazis.
He demonizes immigrants and separates asylum-seekers from their babies with no plan of ever reuniting them.
Trump takes the side of dictators and autocrats over his own intelligence agencies. He admitted to obstructing justice, on national TV, when he told Lester Holt he fired James Comey because of “this Rusher thing.”
And on the environment, Trump is choking out the entire planet by rolling back environmental regulations, pulling us out of the Paris climate accord, and will soon complete the rollback of the “most significant federal effort to curb greenhouse-gas emissions, initiated during the Obama administration,” according to The New York Times.
DJT pulled out of the Iran Nuclear Deal regardless of the fact they were in compliance with the terms of the agreement. He called the Obama deal “decaying and rotten.” He said the deal was “an embarrassment to him as a citizen.”
No, you dumbass. What’s embarrassing is having your president brag about grabbing women by the pussies, or calling African nations “shithole” countries, or hearing an adult film actress describe your mushroom-shaped penis which she encountered just months after Melania gave birth to your son, or constantly denigrating an American war hero, even after he’s passed away from brain cancer.
If for some reason Teflon Don stays slippery, I’m counting on the lawsuit filed by 200 members of the Senate and House alleging that Trump has violated the Foreign Emoluments Clause – an impeachable offense. It’s full steam ahead on this one after a federal district judge rejected Trump’s motion to throw it out.
Look, I’m not blind to Nancy Pelosi’s predicament. But let’s review.
Clinton got a sympathy bump after his impeachment. But come on, that was all about cheating on his marriage, not the country.
Yes, George W. Bush took the White House in the election after Clinton’s disgrace. But did he really win it? No. The Supreme Court gave it to him. And let’s face it; Al Gore was sort of a dud. Think “lock box” with a Forrest Gump accent.
Some say Trump’s supporters will double down. But that solid 43 percent of misguided Americans has quadrupled down for this creep and they’re not going anywhere. Even if Trump does shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue, they’re all in.
Others fear that when the Senate refuses to impeach, Trump will claim full exoneration. And to that I say, “What else is new?”
In the end, Speaker Pelosi warns us an impeachment hearing “could divide the country.”
Earth to Nancy, that ship has sailed.
We need to proceed with impeachment, not because it’s politically advantageous, but because it’s the right thing to do.
First, the House Judiciary Committee would investigate whether an impeachment hearing is warranted. With the weight of an opened impeachment inquiry, the committee could finally get access to documents and Robert Mueller’s grand jury testimony, all currently off limits today.
Trump recently growled, “To me it’s a dirty word, impeach. It’s a dirty, filthy, disgusting word and it has nothing to do with me.”
Actually, it has everything to do with you.
‘Time for the I-word, President Turd.
