Just as beauty cannot be measured, neither can heartache

Confucius says, “Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it.” I believe this to be true but it isn’t because beauty isn’t there, it’s because they have chosen not to see it. Fortunately for us, beauty never dies. It will always be there, so if we miss it now, we can always enjoy it later. It may not be the same beauty it was before, but it is still beauty.

Another thing I believe to be true is the fact that just as beauty can escape us for the moment, the mere thought of it will bring it back. This is especially true when I think about those loved ones who have passed away. They are gone but their beauty remains with me always and that is beauty in itself.

Every time I look at a rock, my friend Steve Shafer pops into my mind, or at least his spirit does. The same thing happens when I look at the stars, or any type of machine or animal, for there is Joe Tomlinson, studying them with either telescope or microscope. When they were alive, I don’t know if I would have described them with the word beauty, but that’s what they were — pure beauty.

Beauty never dies, thus they are always with me.

Just as beauty cannot be measured, neither can heartache and there is beauty even in that. Even the most horrible of things has beauty. “What?” you may ask, “is so beautiful about bullying, rape, murder, and child molestation?” These are all sights that cannot be un-seen but we instantly recognize these acts for the evil that they are, thus there is beauty in the way that we become the hand of God and it naturally becomes a duty to wipe evil from the face of the Earth.

From the moment I awake until I fall asleep at night, I find myself surrounded by pure beauty. There are things I cannot change, but there is beauty in the way I can understand and learn so I’m not falling into a fog of regret and guilt but living in wisdom and love instead. The soul that remains sensitive to the power of beauty can never grow old or tired.

Beauty is an essential part of our lives even though we don’t always realize it. It is that special thing that makes us wonder and fall in love with people or things. Beauty gives color, love, depth, and a certain radiance to everything — that’s why we seek it by all means. I will spend the rest of my life trying to make things more beautiful for others, just as we all should do.

A loving character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. The soul is strengthened, inspired, and success is achieved only through the experience of trial and suffering. Seeking the beauty in everything is the first step in purifying your mind and sharing it will illuminate your soul, opening it to love of every sort which leads you back to developing character, my friend.

    Ain’t life beautiful?
