Still openings in my women’s writing workshop in Venice Beach
My Big Island Women’s Writing Workshop is coming to Los Angeles! The workshop on Saturday, Nov. 1, in Van Nuys only has one opening left, so I’m offering a second workshop for men and women on Sunday, Nov. 2, in Venice Beach — and only two openings left in that one!
Since I began this workshop in August 2012, sixty women and two men have joined a beautiful circle of Big Island writers who gather to spend the entire day connecting to their authentic writing voices. We write on our own, using prompts that I give, and then we come together to share our stories and speak back each other’s words.
It has been a profoundly moving experience for me and I continue to marvel at the words that are written and shared in these workshops. At each of these workshops, the writing that happens in the group is elevated by the collective strength of each writer, becoming stronger and deeper as the day goes on.
This isn’t a technical how-to writing workshop and there’s no critique of the work; we write to connect to our stories and share them with other writers. Some of the writers are published authors, others are writers who journal and/or blog, and then some just have the desire to write but haven’t yet found an outlet. We write by hand, using a notebook or a journal — no computers.
If this speaks to you, come to my workshop! We will gather at the home of Harriet Robinson in Van Nuys on Saturday. The day begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. This workshop is limited to ten people. The Sunday workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Su Casa on the boardwalk in Venice Beach. It is limited to eight people. Registration is $100, which includes lunch.
