Tweetering on the edge
Yeah. You read it right. He really tweeted that.
Keep in mind, Twitter is my least favorite social media venue. The limited space that means that even smart people sound like illiterate adolescents (with all due kudos to the many marvelously literate teens out there), the fact that it’s called “Twitter” at all — that was not a term that portrayed an excess of intelligence back in the day. Bird brain, back then, was an insult.
So I suppose it makes sense that the most vile, corrupt, treasonous, utterly decorticate — dare I even say demented — individual ever to sully the Oval Office (and that’s saying an awful lot) would use this as his means to express his presidential (small “p” to you, Mr. Babyhands) ire.
And oh, he does. I don’t have room for all of it but you can go out to Twitter and read it for yourself. From threats to insults to sexual harassment, he’s covered every base. He’s exposed his ignorance so frequently it’s almost magnificent — if you can bear to use that word — in its profoundness.
He’s been in office a little over a year and a half and in that time, we’ve seen the abandonment of nearly every American ideal. Equality for minorities and women? Gone. Education? In the process of being deconstructed. The environment? Where’s the profit in that? Healthcare? For the elite only. Retirement? Same thing. And forget our international allies. Go read Orwell’s “1984.” That’s a better illustration of Trump’s attitude toward global politics than I can muster here. (You can purchase it here.)
Easily as disturbing as the bare bones of what he’s doing is that he’s doing it at a fragile time in this world. Attitudes we haven’t seen at such levels for literal generations are resurging. In the US, Nazis and the KKK march side by side and the cops? They target protesters. Europe is experiencing a shift to far-right populism that includes virulent anti-Muslim and antisemitic philosophies. I’ve personally experienced treatment as a woman I haven’t endured since the 1970s, and the homophobia and xenophobia I’m seeing now is at a level I don’t recall since before Stonewall (The Stonewall Riots were the turning point for gay rights).
But there’s hope. Keep in mind, he has the emotional maturity of a toddler — and the impulse control. If it pops into the orange jello that passes for his brain, it exudes from his thumbs in the form of yet another ill-considered tweet. Here are a few gems listed by Newsday for your reading “pleasure.” Because he simply spews with no consideration whatsoever, he forgets what he said and he contradicts himself. And that’s dangerous — to him.
Make no mistake, Trump is being slowly but surely being backed into a corner by the Mueller investigation. His cronies are falling like drunken sailors after one last shot of Everclear and bit by bit, they’re regurgitating details that should sink his ship. You can tell by the increasing desperation of the tweets — and Mueller is going over those little bastards with a fine toothed comb and a scanning electron microscope (this is gonna be good).
If there is anything good left in the universe, those tweets will take him down like a paper bag in a volcano. And if there is anything to the concept of a Divine intelligence, I will get to watch and gloat.
For some people, their misbehaviors have them teetering at the edge of disaster.
With this orange insult to the office of president — it’s tweetering.
